i-gel O2 Resus Pack included in TCCC guidelines

We are delighted to announce that earlier this year the Intersurgical i-gel O2 Resus Pack* was included in the US Military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) guidelines for securing an airway in the Tactical Evacuation (TACEVAC) phase of care.

TCCC is the standard of care for Prehospital Battlefield Medicine and TACEVAC relates to the care given to a casualty whilst still under fire on the battlefield. The Committee on TCCC issue and regularly update guidelines. These guidelines include airway management and the use of supraglottic airways.

The original TCCC guidelines were published in 1996 and an update in 2012 reaffirmed support for the use of SADs for the TACEVAC phase of care, but did not recommend a specific device, as they did not feel there was sufficient evidence at the time to do so. However, in the latest update, i-gel has been designated as the 'preferred Extraglottic Airway (EGA)' as it was decided it had a number of characteristics that make it favourable for use on the battlefield.

They concluded that current evidence suggests the i-gel performs as well or better than the other SADs available and has other advantages in:

• Ease of training
• Size & weight
• Cost
• Safety
• Simplicity of use

The gel-filled cuff in the i-gel both eliminates the need for cuff pressure monitoring during flight and reduces the risk of pressure-induced neuropraxia to cranial nerves in the oropharynx and hypopharynx as a complication of SAD use.

The latest changes to the TCCC guidelines does the following things:

• Adds extraglottic airways (EGAs) as an option for airway management in Tactical Field Care;
• Recommends the i-gel as the preferred EGA in TCCC because its gel-filled cuff makes it simpler to use than EGAs with air-filled cuffs and also eliminates the need for monitoring of cuff pressure;

You can find all of the above details confirmed in the abstract of the article, 'Extraglottic Airways in Tactical Combat Casualty Care: TCCC Guidelines Change 17-01 28 August 2017 published in the Journal of Special Operations Medicine by Otten EJ, Montgomery HR, Butler FK Jr.

Create your oral care programme

View our choice of toothbrushes, day kits and protocols for ICU patient care.

Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is a major cost concern in modern hospitals. A combination of oral care treatments in a proper oral care protocol means care providers can more efficiently prevent oropharyngeal bacterial biofilm build up. This in turn leads to a reduction of VAP and aspiration pneumonias and greatly reduces associated treatment costs.

Our extensive choice of soft-bristle toothbrushes, treatment packs and OroCareTM day kits with mouthwash offers you all the tools needed to create your own oral care programme.

Full descriptions and clinical evidence are available to help make the choice easier. Please contact us to discuss options further.

One-piece™ Guedel airways: Safer by design

How many Guedel airways have an integral bite block? Just one
Loose or detached bite blocks constitute a real threat to patient safety and have been the subject of several hazard notices in the past. Our One-piece design overcomes all of the associated risks by combining two materials with very different physical characteristics into one moulding, resulting in the elimination of the separate bite block found in all conventional Guedel airway designs.

We have an online resource containing all product information on our One-piece Guedel airway, including a video and information sheet.  Make an enquiry for further information.

Solus Curve laryngeal mask airway

We are delighted to announce the introduction of Solus™ Curve to our range of laryngeal mask airways.
Solus™ Curve is a sterile, single use, latex free laryngeal mask airway for those who prefer the insertion characteristics of a device with a preformed airway tube. Solus™ Curve provides all the benefits of Standard Solus, including an integral inflation line to reduce the risk of damage whilst in use, a classic cuff shape for optimal performance and a low friction material for atraumatic insertion and removal.

Solus™ Curve is available in three adult sizes and is a welcome addition to our range of supraglottic airways, which includes the innovative 2nd generation i-gel and 1st generation Standard, Satin, Wire Reinforced and MRI Solus™.

The Solus™ video and Solus™ Curve information sheet provide additional details about this range.

New tube management grip

We now have available a new tube management grip to complement our existing tube management programme.

Sliding in to a notch found on the Intersurgical tube clips, the grip allows for secure attachment of breathing systems to the patient's clothing or bedding in an optimal position to reduce patient trauma.

Our tube management programme comprises tube clips, management clip and grip, and tube supports.  They are designed to position our breathing systems efficiently and comfortably around the patient area whilst providing a safe and tidy environment. View the supporting video and information sheet which provides more information about this range.

TrachSeal™ Closed Suction System range expansion

We have now expanded our range of TrachSeal™ Closed Suction Systems to include saline ampoules (NaCl) sold in individual packets or as part of several combination products.

All of these combination products will feature one closed suction system packaged with an initial supply of ten saline ampoules (NaCl).

Available with 72-hour versions only.

The Intersurgical TrachSeal™ features an ultra clear, new softer sleeve. This allows the clinician greater feel when inserting the catheter with optimum visibility of blockage assessments.  Our suction control valve is responsive and allows for single handed control of the applied suction force. The positive locking mechanism is designed to prevent suction being accidentally applied.
